When you're looking to book a hotel, one of the first things you're probably looking at, is the number of stars it's received. After all, they're a first and objective measure of the quality you can expect.
But did you know you can also obtain such an official rating for your own holiday home?
In France, Atout France, the agency for tourist development, awards vacation homes with a one to five star rating, naming them from “hébergement econome” up to “hebergement très haut de gamme”. This official rating isn't just a powerful argument when you're putting up four home for rent, it also comes with a considerable fiscal incentive. The rating (no matter how many stars you're awarded) awards you with a tax deduction of 71% instead of 50% on your rental revenues.
The rating is valid for 5 years, costs about € 200 and can be easily obtained after a visit by an accredited inspector.
